Guest speaker, Linda Tikofsky, DVM gave a short presentation on mastitis in goats.

President, Brett Lindsay called the meeting to order at 1:25 pm.

The minutes of the November 8, 2009 meeting were approved as written.

Treasurer, Doug Gardner gave a written report – there is a balance in the ESMGPA treasury of $2343.86 plus a CD for the Kimber Hamm scholarship funds of $2551.71; a balance in the savings account of $291.35; for a total ESMGPA funds of $5186.92.

Committee Reports & Old Business
Youth Committee – Craig Todd gave report on kids-4-kids program – need applicants

Education Committee – tat reported on Caprine Outing in September 2010 and requested ESMGPA to make a donation toward Caprine outing expenses

Show committee – Deb clarified that the show committee was only for the ESMGPA sponsored shows in May, July & September.  Everything is in place for the May show.

State Fair show – tat reported for Melissa that funds are needed for the Kimber Hamm goat rancher scholarship

Production Sale – Brett indicated that meeting is needed to determine if a sale will be conducted in 2010

New Business/Announcements –
Open meat goat show @ Cayuga County fairgrounds, July 10, 2010;
Open meat goat show @ Monroe County fairgrounds, July 17, 2010; Region 3 open show @ Bath Fairgrounds, August 17, 2010
Craig Todd reported a need for better control of goats used in kids 4 kids program.  He proposed a contract be used and better followup.
Tat reported on livestock processing using mobile units in the Hudson Valley.
Deb reported that the ESMGPA portion of the payment for the Empire Farm Days exhibit ($600) was due by April 30, 2010.  She also expressed a need for help to man the exhibit.  There will be a bulletin board for breeder’s information.
There was a suggestion to sell candy bars and/or a box for donations to help raise money for the Kimber Hamm scholarship fund.

President, Brett Lindsay called the meeting to order.

The minutes of the November 15, 2008 meeting were approved as written on motion of Karen Stumpf; seconded by Norm Paeth.
 
Treasurer, Doug Gardner gave a written report – there is a balance in the ESMGPA treasury of $3862.40; a CD for the Kimber Hamm scholarship funds of $2500.00; a balance in the savings account of $280.00; sales of ads of $125.00 for a total ESMGPA funds of $6767.40.

Correspondence: - a thank you note from the Beiler family for Kimber Hamm scholarships was read.

Region reports:
Region 1 – Carolyn Smith was absent
Region 2 – Karen Stumpf’s report is attached
Region 3 – Stan Matthews was absent

Committee Reports:
Youth Committee – see attached report from Craig Todd
Education Committee – tat reported on a meat goat worksheet development
Show committee – Denny reported that the 2009 shows are in place
State Fair show – Melissa Ziemendorf reported that the 4-H show will be August 31.  Funds and donated items are greatly needed.  A motion by Denny Hamm and seconded by Norm Paeth to donate $200. towards the show was approved by all.
                             Kay Kotwica reported that there will be an open meat goat show on September 6
Production sale – sale will be held August 18 at the Cortland County Fair Grounds

New Business/Announcements – Deb Borden asked about keeping ESMGPA presence at Empire Farm Days (August 11,12,13). A motion by Kay Kotwica, seconded by Melissa Ziemendorf to keep the presence passed unanimously.  ESMGPA will give $600. towards the expenses.

Richard Feasley said he is looking for sponsors for the 1st Annual Western NY Youth show

Tat made a motion to link a feed cost fact sheet study to the website; seconded by Melissa Ziemendorf, passed unanimously.

Kay announced the open meat goat show at Cayuga Co. fair on July 4.

Karen announced that Clinton Co. may be looking to host a show.

Tat asked about training new judges for local county fair shows.  The show committee will look into this.

President, Deb Borden called the meeting to order.

All those present introduced themselves.

The minutes of the March 2006 meeting were approved as written.

The following reports were presented:

Treasurer – John Wertis – see attached report

President – Deb reported on the success of the NY Farm Show; the animal identification has been put on the back burner for now; the progress of the petition to change the rules regarding the need for TB and Brucellosis vaccinations for showing meat goats vs dairy goats in New York; applications for scholarship fund deadline of April 30, 2007

Education Committee – Tat Stanton reported on the kidding season mentoring program; creep feeding program; out of season kidding

at made a motion asking ESMGPA for letter support for a grant to help the marketing infrastructure, seconded by John Wertis – passed with 1 abstention
The membership voted that ESMGPA support future grant proposals geared to improving the marketing infrastructure of meat goats.

Marketing committee – John referred to the information on the web; mentioned a grant for Bob Walters to help subsidize meat goat prices to sellers

Show committee – Dennis Hamm announced the July, ABGA sanctioned show in Syracuse in July; the Region 3 show on June 2 in Watkins Glen, NY; and a Region 3sponsored show at Bath Fair on August 15.

Youth report – Melissa Ziemendorf reported on Kids for kids project – region 4 winner (Tisha Jaynes); possibly another winner from region 3 to be announced within a week

Region 3 – Stan Matthews reported on the upcoming June 2 show at Watkins Glen, to include a clipping clinic and showmanship clinic with Don Borden as judge; the August 15 show at Bath Fair with Scott Myer as judge; the availability of the portable pens that were built by region 3 members

Region 4 – Jim Bailey reported they are looking into the possibility of another workshop

New Business –
Jim Bailey asked about training for judges due to the lack of judges in the area – Deb Borden reported that ABGA is looking to bring judging workshops and training to this area in the fall of 2007
John Wertis asked about health issues for meat goats – Sarah Colby and John will check into what research is being done in this area – possible survey of the membership for interest
Denny Hamm commented on the condition of the website and that Bob Walter’s daughter is available to act as a liason for keeping the website current
Deb Borden asked about establishing a classified section on the website (to be paid for by member utilizing this capability)
Denny asked about having a commercial breeding stock sale – a committee will look into the feasibility

A short lunch break was taken and then the meeting continued.

A round table with Kathy McIsaac, Denny Hamm, Tatiana Stanton & Elisa Ermilia (vet student) was participated in by all present.

President, Deb Borden called the meeting to order.

The following reports were presented:

Vice President, Dennis Hamm – nothing to report at this time
Treasurer – John Wertis
A motion was made, seconded and passed unanimously to move all dividend money from the ESMGPA account for 2005 and 2006 into the Kim Hamm fund.

Secretary, Gayle Gardner – minutes of November 2005 meeting were presented. A motion to accept the minutes was made and passed. A suggestion was offered to make copies for those without internet capabilities.

Education Committee – tat Stanton reported on the kidding season mentoring program; the Coby Classic scheduled for April 22 at Cobleskill University and the Caprine Outing in September.

Marketing committee – John Wertis announced the members of the committee. A motion was made, seconded and passed to approve that ESMGPA support two 2006 marketing workshops up to $150.00 total. Also noted the links from the website for marketing information.

Show committee – Dennis Hamm announced the July, ABGA sanctioned show in Syracuse to include a wether show for youth 19 and under; an ABGA sanctioned show sponsored by Jane Willis on May 13 & 14 in Syracuse; Region 3 show on June 10 in Watkins Glen, NY and an open show on September 30 and October 1 in Syracuse.
Youth report – presented by Deb Borden - Kids for kids project was presented – breeders could donate a doe kid to an underpriviledged child to raise, show and breed. A doeling would then be donated from that goat to keep the project going.
Region 4 – Jim Bailey reported that they are looking into a workshop on grading, parasites and nutrition.

ABGA affiliation:
ESMGPA became an affiliate of ABGA in 2005. Dues are $75.00/year. A member match of $1.00/member was received plus $300/seminar x 2 education seminars = $639 received. A motion was made and passed to pay the dues for 2006.

Empire Farm Days:
A motion was made and passed to pay $300 for the space at Empire Farm Days in August for ESMGPA representation. Also discussed was the possibility of an advertising board that would display 8 l/2 x 11” broadside ad sheets for farms/dealers/etc. that were not in attendance with animals. The marketing committee assumed the responsibility to produce such a board and get it to the tent.

New York State Fair:
A request was made for ESMGPA representation at the New York State Fair in August. Melissa Ziemendorf is taking care of the matter.

Meeting adjourned at 12:35 for pizza lunch.

Anna Moore, USDA representative for the NY scrapie program gave a presentation on scrapies in NY and the availability of ID tags.

A round-table discussion followed the scrapie presentation. Breeders Dennis Hamm, Deb Borden and John Wertis answered many questions. Everyone enjoyed the interaction.

A tour of the Cobleskill facilities was conducted prior for all interested persons.

President, Deb Borden called the luncheon meeting to order.

A moment of silence for Kimber Hamm was observed. There was discussion regarding establishing a scholarship & development fund in Kimber’s name. A motion was made by Don Borden to establish the Kimber Hamm ESMGPA Youth Scholarship Fund, seconded by John Wertis and passed unanimously.

A motion to accept the minutes of the October 2, 2005 meeting was made and passed.

Treasurer’s report by John Wertis showing a balance of $2834 was accepted.

*The website has been taken over by EDJE Technologies, Inc. It should be up and running by November 17.

March 2006 elections - There was discussion as to a nominating committee; change the fiscal year w/elections in November instead of March and stagger the terms.

There was discussion about having an information booklet (market tips, slaughter houses w/slaughter costs).

The March meeting will be announced later.
